Airport Partnership with Art in Public Places Offers New Photo Op Spot at Bailey Terminal
PUNTA GORDA, FL (Sept. 10, 2021) – Thanks to the Charlotte County Airport Authority’s partnership with the Arts & Humanities Council of Charlotte County, Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) has a new colorful photo op spot for passengers to capture a selfie and share on social media.
Local artist Larry E. Palmer painted a Charlotte Harbor sunset mural on a 10-foot wall in the corridor that connects ticketing and baggage claim in the Bailey Terminal. The scene is completed with two bar-height Adirondack chairs sourced from Ocean Isles Outdoor, live greenery provided by TROPEX and a full-color PGD logo installed by Monarch Direct.
The photo op spot was envisioned and facilitated by the Art In Public Places Program (AIPP) Project Coordinator Leigha Murray and is available to the public and travelers alike. It is located in the middle of the window-facing corridor that connects ticketing and baggage claim, just south of the Flybrary. Adjacent automatic doors make exterior access easy, and parking in the short-term lot across the street is free for one hour.
“The idea is to create an iconic spot for PGD travelers to take a photo. We hope it will create a lasting memory and reminder of their journey to southwest Florida,” said PGD’s CEO James W. Parish.
Photo takers are encouraged to “check in” on social media with the hashtag #FlyPGD and tag @PuntaGordaAirport on Facebook, @PuntaGordaAir on Twitter and Fly_PGD on Instagram.
Palmer’s handiwork is no stranger to PGD, as his colorful nature-focused paintings adorn the walls in the corridor and ticketing area as part of the Council’s AIPP. Palmer, who has been painting since he was 12 years old, donated his time to create the sunset photo op mural. “It was an honor to help create such a beautiful space where travelers can capture a lasting memory,” said Palmer.
