A must-see while in Albany is The Berkshires, a vast mountainous region on the border of New York and Massachusetts. The Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and Mount Greylock, the highest point in The Berkshires, are just a couple of the numerous natural features all within an hour of Albany International Airport.
If you’re a fan of American literature, you may already know the area is also home of American novelist Herman Melville, who is most known for his book The Whale, aka Moby Dick. Visitors can tour the Herman Melville Arrowhead Museum and surrounding grounds and trails.
Calling all Hamilton fans! Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site is located in Albany, New York, and was the venue of Elizabeth Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton’s wedding in 1780. Tours are available by reservation only and topics include the American Revolution.
For those who want to relax with some farm-to-table refreshments, Albany has dozens of cideries and wineries available for your perusing pleasure – the Capital Craft Beverage Trail even offers prizes when visiting participating distilleries!
