Data Shows Punta Gorda Airport Offers Lowest Average Airfare in Southwest Florida

PGD’s Average Ticket Fare is $72 Each Way

Punta Gorda, FL (July 29, 2020) – Travelers looking to save money on air travel will find that Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is the low-fare leader when compared to neighboring airports in Fort Myers and Sarasota, with 45-85% less in fare costs. Allegiant fares through PGD average only $72 each way, while fares to the same destination airports from Sarasota (SRQ) average $105 and Fort Myers (RSW) average $133.

The analysis was conducted by Volaire Aviation Consulting, utilizing information provided by Airline Data Inc. from March 2019 to February 2020 that compared 40 of the same airports accessible through PGD, RSW and SRQ. In addition to the lowest fares, PGD passengers also experienced the convenience of flying nonstop every time, whereas flights out of RSW and SRQ averaged 1.4 segments, meaning they had layovers or required a connecting flight to reach their destination.

“This data is further proof that our low-cost model works, and is serving our community well,” Charlotte County Airport Authority Commissioner Kathleen Coppola said. “Allegiant can offer the most competitive fares in Southwest Florida, and in-turn PGD earns business from our loyal passengers.”

Allegiant offers the lowest fares and only nonstop flights to more than 45 destinations through PGD; airlines serving RSW and SRQ offer higher fares and layovers. Historically, the only airport on the west coast of Florida with such competitive low fares is St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, located 100 miles away and also served primarily by Allegiant.
