PGD’s CEO Announced as Leadership Florida Cornerstone Class Member for 2020-2021
Punta Gorda, FL (Aug. 10, 2020) – James W. Parish, P.E. is one of 55 new Cornerstone Class members identified by the Leadership Florida Selection Committee as “most likely to utilize their leadership abilities for the long-term benefit of Florida and individuals who are committed to making Florida a better place in which to live and prosper.”
The Cornerstone Class was chosen to participate in a stimulating and thought-provoking nine-month educational program that consists of a series of two and three-day sessions held in cities throughout the state, the culmination of which is the equivalent of a sixth session where members will join fellow Leadership Florida members at its Annual Meeting. These sessions include programming on issues critical to Florida, refining well-developed leadership skills via sessions with leading experts, and relevant information on Florida’s history, demography, diversities, challenges, and opportunities.
James is a licensed professional engineer and the CEO of the Punta Gorda Airport (PGD). James has led the transformation of PGD into a successful, small-hub commercial airport that served more than 1.6 million passengers in 2019 – and is dedicated to continuing a low-cost model while retaining a strong general aviation and business community.
James began working for PGD as an engineering consultant 20-plus years ago, and was hired as Lead Engineer and Construction Manager for the airport’s reconstruction after Hurricane Charley. He also served as Assistant Executive Director, and was then promoted to CEO after Gary Quill’s retirement.
James is a University of Florida graduate who also served several years of active duty in the U.S. Navy as part of the Naval Special Warfare Group. He is a Leadership Charlotte Alumni and currently serves on the boards of the Florida Airports Council, Charlotte County Economic Development Partnership, Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce and Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce.
