DeAngelis Diamond Set to Begin Construction on Punta Gorda Airport Terminal Expansion

DeAngelis Diamond is preparing to break ground on the highly anticipated Punta Gorda Airport Terminal Expansion. Following the successful completion of pre-construction services, the firm will now lead the construction phase, enhancing the existing Bailey Terminal to accommodate growing passenger demand and improve operational efficiency. This $44 million investment in the future of travel is a collaboration between the Charlotte County Airport Authority (CCAA), AECOM, and DeAngelis Diamond.

The project is being delivered through a design-build approach, which has allowed the team to streamline communication, enhance collaboration, and maintain alignment with project goals. Thanks to the clear vision and strong leadership of the CCAA, the project has progressed efficiently, staying within budget and on schedule. Their support and guidance have been instrumental in moving the project forward and ensuring it remains focused on PGD’s long-term mission.

The expansion will add approximately 50,700 sq. ft. of new space, including hold rooms, public circulation areas, restrooms, and concessions. Additionally, about 28,250 sq. ft. of the current Bailey Terminal will be renovated. Key project components include relocating aircraft parking positions and drainage structures, modifying the aircraft parking apron, expanding the existing terminal and support building spaces, relocating the existing TSA checkpoint, and renovating the existing checkpoint and hold rooms.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2025, with completion targeted for July 2027. Once finished, the enhancements at Punta Gorda Airport’s (PGD) Bailey Terminal will include: expanded food concepts and concessions, spacious and upgraded restrooms, a new departures concourse featuring larger waiting areas, abundant natural light, WiFi access, and charging stations, improved public circulation space, expanded and redesigned TSA checkpoints.

“We’re honored to partner with the CCAA and AECOM on this exciting project.  Having successfully completed PGD’s Bailey Terminal Expansion in 2016, it’s a privilege to continue our relationship and help build the airport’s future,” said Scott Beck, VP / Division Manager of the Sarasota Division. “As a local builder, we take great pride in being a part of a project that will have such a positive impact on our community.  We’re grateful for the trust PGD leadership placed in our team, and we look forward to another successful project.”

“We look forward to bringing more amenities and modern upgrades to the traveling public, and we thank our passengers for their patience while we undergo these exciting changes,” said PGD’s CEO James W. Parish.
