CEO Update – Winter 2024

Punta Gorda Airport Winter Update

The Punta Gorda Airport team is closing out 2023 with strong performance, and we’re setting the stage for new opportunities in 2024. We are projecting more than 1.9 million passengers will have traveled through PGD in 2023, which equates to another record-breaking year for us.

I am pleased to share that Allegiant announced new service to Washington D.C. that will begin in May 2024, and that its newest year-round route to Bangor, Maine began in mid-November.  Sun Country has also returned with twice-weekly seasonal service to Minneapolis through mid-April. We hope that our partnership with Sun Country will continue to grow with this route’s success, and that the airline will expand its service to additional destinations.  As Sunseeker Resort continues to gain nationwide attention, we believe its notoriety will also help us in recruiting new airlines and routes.

I am also pleased to share that Governor DeSantis appointed a new Commissioner to the Charlotte County Airport Authority Board for the District 5 seat. Many fellow Chamber members know Thomas “T.J.” Thornberry as an active leader in our business community with a wealth of experience in the construction industry.  Thornberry will be welcomed at the next Authority Board Meeting on Jan. 18, 2024.

We have a big year ahead, as we will tackle design of the Bailey Terminal expansion, and continue to make improvements to hangars and facilities throughout airport property.  I invite you to stay engaged by following all the latest news at www.FlyPGD.com/BUZZ.
