Punta Gorda Airport Summer Update
Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is bustling with passenger activity this summer, with 2023 passenger totals expected to surpass 2022’s total passenger numbers. We’re pleased to share that Sun Country will return to PGD this December through April 2024 with service to Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. Low-cost, nonstop flights to and from MSP twice weekly can be booked online at SunCountry.com.
PGD has proudly adopted the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to help support and raise awareness of those living with a hidden disability. This means that those with a hidden disability—such as autism, dementia, mental health issues or learning difficulties— can wear a Sunflower lanyard as a subtle way of letting other knows that they may require additional support, assistance or a bit more time. Passengers can request a Sunflower lanyard by contacting CThames@FlyPGD.com or calling 941-205-3276 at least 7 days prior to arrival at PGD. A lanyard may be mailed out or made available for pickup.
PGD also received national kudos as our Air Traffic Control Tower was recently named Robinson Aviation (RVA), Inc.’s Facility of the Year for 2022. RVA operates air traffic control towers at 102 airports across the southeast and southern United States for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The local PGD Tower Staff was honored to be recognized by RVA as “the best of the best.”
On the north side of the airport in the PGD AviEx, construction is nearing completion on 19 new box hangars and 24 new T-hangars near the PGD Air Center. We’re also excited to share that Rosati’s Pizza has received their construction permits and the public restaurant is expected to open before the US Air Force Thunderbirds return for the Florida International Air Show on November 4-5, 2023. Plus, we continue to work closely Charlotte Technical College on an expanded Aviation Maintenance School; which is essential to growing our aviation workforce.
My team works tirelessly to meet the needs of our diverse stakeholders, from our jet-setting neighbors to aviation workers to pilots in training, so I encourage you to sign up for our monthly BUZZ e-news and stay in the loop at www.flypgd.com/buzz.
