Please direct related questions to the FAA.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on April 22 will implement the first phase of the South-Central Florida Metroplex, the agency’s plan to move flights more safely and efficiently across the southern half of the state. Metroplex procedures will allow flights that are more direct and have more efficient climb and descent profiles. The agency will publish 54 new procedures on April 22. Seventeen of the procedures will require additional training of air traffic controllers and automation upgrades at air traffic control facilities before they can be implemented. [...]

The FAA has announced it has prepared a Final Environmental Assessment (EA) to consider the potential environmental impacts of the South-Central Florida Metroplex (FL Metroplex) Project. Based on the information and analysis contained in the Final EA, the FAA has also issued a Finding of No Significant Impact/Record of Decision (FONSI/ROD) for the project. Special thanks to the entire team that made PGD’s Triennial Drill a success! This full-scale exercise, required by the FAA every three years, tests the speed and effectiveness of emergency personnel and airport staff in the event of a significant incident. In addition to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office dispatch team participated, along with the Air Traffic Control Tower and Worldwide Flight Services. Airport Stakeholders and emergency responders will take part in a full-scale training exercise at Punta Gorda Airport on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020. Passengers will not be affected by this exercise as all the commercial airline facilities, including entrance and exit roads, parking, the Bailey Terminal and aircraft boarding will still be accessible and operational. The exercise will simulate an emergency response to a mock aircraft accident at the south end of the airport. Punta Gorda Airport’s management and operations teams are working to secure the airport property and make preparations for potential impacts from Tropical Storm Laura. Punta Gorda Airport and its runways will remain open as long as conditions are safe.  However, if winds are sustained at ~50 MPH, aircraft operations and tower operations will cease, and we continue to follow recommendations from Charlotte County Emergency Management. Pelican Drive Now Closed

The following roads on Punta Gorda Airport property are now closed permanently: Pelican Drive west of Grove Boulevard is closed. Westminster Drive from Pelican Drive to Wharton Avenue is closed. These areas are now fenced in as part of Punta Gorda Airport's operational area.   Signage, fences and blockades have been installed. The area is being monitored for trespassers.
