(Oct. 4, 2019) – Piper Road, between Henry Street and Jones Loop Road, will have intermittent lane closures on Monday, Oct. 7 until Friday, Oct. 18. This closure is required for milling and resurfacing of the roadway. Advance warning signs and flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Law Enforcement and emergency responders from local agencies will take part in a full-scale training exercise at Punta Gorda Airport on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019. The exercise will simulate an emergency response scenario at the Bailey Terminal and commercial passenger areas.  The Viking Avenue entrance road will be closed, and only pre-approved participants will be allowed to access the Bailey Terminal. Punta Gorda Airport’s management and operations teams are working to secure the airport property and make preparations for potential impacts from Hurricane Dorian. Punta Gorda Airport and its runways will remain open as long as conditions are safe.  However, if winds are sustained at ~50 MPH, aircraft operations and tower operations will cease, and we continue to follow recommendations from Charlotte County Emergency Management.
